Historical Evolution of Zamfara State’s Population
Zamfara has a deep historical background, dating back to the 11th century when it was part of the renowned Hausa city-states. It flourished as a hub for commerce, governance, and cultural development.
By the early 19th century, Zamfara was incorporated into the Sokoto Caliphate following the Islamic reformist movement led by Usman Dan Fodio. This shift significantly influenced the region’s social and political structure.
During British colonial rule, Zamfara fell under the jurisdiction of Northern Nigeria and later became part of the North-Western and Sokoto States after Nigeria gained independence.
