Prior to this position, he served as the Deputy Governor of Operations at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from 2014 to 2018. Born on September 28, 1970, in Ibadan, Oyo State, Adelabu hails from a prominent family with a legacy in Nigerian politics, as his grandfather, Adegoke Adelabu, was a notable political figure.

Adelabu graduated with a first-class degree in Accounting from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and furthered his education at prestigious institutions like Harvard and Stanford. His professional journey began at PriceWaterhouse (now PwC), where he handled auditing and consultancy projects for financial institutions.
His career progressed through key roles at First Atlantic Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, and First Bank of Nigeria, where he became Chief Financial Officer at age 39. Adelabu has also served on boards such as the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement Systems (NIBBS), Nigeria Security Printing and Minting Company (NSPMC), and the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).
Beyond finance, Adelabu has been active in politics. He contested for the governorship of Oyo State in 2019 under the All Progressives Congress (APC) but was unsuccessful.
